What the SMS program does

Group Chat Dad helps organizers manage RSVPs, track expenses, and remind members about balances for group activities such as recurring poker leagues, weekend trips, and casual social events. Members are added by an organizer through a web dashboard with their explicit consent, or members can self-register by texting the bot directly. The bot then exchanges 1:1 SMS with the organizer and consenting members — parsing messages like IN, OUT, and $40 dinner split 4 ways, and sending transactional replies, event reminders, and balance summaries to the person who messaged it.

All messages are transactional — RSVP confirmations, expense logs, balance updates, event reminders. We do not send marketing or promotional messages.

How members opt in

1. Organizer adds a member through the dashboard (with explicit consent)

The organizer signs in to the Group Chat Dad dashboard, opens their group, and clicks Add member. Before saving, they must affirmatively tick a consent attestation confirming the member has agreed to receive transactional SMS from this program. Below is the exact consent block organizers see:

Consent required. By adding this person you confirm they have given you their express permission to receive SMS from Group Chat Dad on your group's behalf. They will receive transactional messages only (RSVPs, event reminders, balance updates).

2. Members can also self-register over SMS

After the organizer shares the bot's number with the group (via a paste-able disclosure template the dashboard provides), members who want to participate text the bot directly with YO {their name} to register. This is fully member-initiated — they choose to send the message — and creates the same registered membership as Path 1.
